Description

The world knows a lot about the inhabitants of the Arctic. Santa Claus, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Princess Anna and Queen Elsa – we’ve all sung the carols and seen the movies.

At the Norwegian Embassy we love the fictional side of the Arctic as much as the next person, but we know there’s something more to this wonderful part of the world. Step beyond Frosty the Snowman and the elves’ workshop and you’ll find the real Arctic, a place filled with people and wildlife, incredible scenery and a booming economy.

We’re looking for amateur filmmakers to help teach people something about that Arctic, the real Arctic, the one rarely depicted in popular entertainment. The Arctic that is home to more than 700,000 Americans, and 10 percent of the population of Norway. The Arctic that is booming economically as new shipping routes open up and melting ice paves the way for resource discovery on a grand scale. The Arctic whose flora, fauna and landscape are threatened by the climate change that is creating those very same opportunities.

We want you to make a film no longer than 3 minutes, in any style of your choosing, that will show audiences around the world things they never knew about this special region. We are looking for films that are creative, witty, inspiring and technically proficient – films that help viewers #MeetTheArctic. Filmmakers should focus on people, economic development and climate – preference will be given to films that look at all three – and create a film that will fill their audiences’ heads with questions and inspire them to learn more.

The deadline for submissions is Friday November 20, 2015.
