Description

The object of the Cinéfondation, an Official Selection of the Festival de Cannes, is to present and highlight about 20 films from film schools, whether fiction or animation, that reveals talent and deserves encouragement.

ENTRY FEE
There is no entry fee to submit a short film at the Cinéfondation.

ELIGIBILITY
Unless a special waiver is granted, a film must comply with the following conditions in order to be submitted:
– have been directed by a student within his/her film school curriculum;
– have been made during the 18 months preceding the Festival;
– have not been presented at major international festivals, however a film can have been shown at a festival in its country of origin;
– not exceed 60 minutes in running-time.
N.B. :
– Films made at Junior secondary school or High school level are not accepted for selection in this section of the Festival, only films produced within the studies in directing in a Film school or Film studies department of a University are eligible;
– Documentaries are not accepted;
– It is possible to send a working copy of the film. When filling in the entry form, please state if it is the final version or a working version. Submission of a working copy does not allow for later submission of a final copy unless requested by the Cinéfondation;
– If your student film is no longer than 15 min in length, it can also be entered in the Short Film Competition if eligible under the Rules of this Selection. Please take note that this is a distinct registration and that the deadline date for submissions is not the same: more information;
– Short films (from 1 to 35 min) can also be registered in the Short Film Corner: a meeting place dedicated to short films within the Festival de Cannes.

DEADLINE

To submit a film, fill in the online application form on our website and directly upload your film on the same website or send a DVD of the film together with a copy of your registration slip.

The registration deadline is February 15th, 2017 at the latest (by this date, the entry form must have been filled in and the film uploaded). If you choose to send a DVD instead of uploading your film on our website, the DVD must reach our office for February 15th at the latest, not post-marked.

AWARDS

The Jury designates three awards. The Festival de Cannes allocates a €15,000 grant for the First Prize, €11,250 for the Second and €7,500 for the Third.

The Cinéfondation will grant the three winners, prizes of an equal value – €15,000 for the First, €11,250 for the Second and €7,500 for the Third – provided that a feature film project is presented within two years of the film award.

In case of a joint award, the amount will be equally divided.

The first prize winner of the Cinéfondation is also guaranteed that his or her first feature film will be presented at the Festival de Cannes. The credits of the first feature film of the winners of these prizes will include the mention that they have been made with the support of the Cinéfondation of the Festival de Cannes.
