Dear NYFA Faculty,
You should have received an updated coronavirus alert today, but I am sending you this message as well to help guide you in the event that a student appears ill or approaches you with concerns.
IF A STUDENT IS EITHER VISIBLY SICK OR TELLS YOU THAT THEY ARE SICK:
- Calmly acknowledge that the student is feeling sick.
- Reassure them that if they need to stay home, accommodations will be made. For instance, make-up work or possibly teleconferencing in to class sessions. You as the instructor should consult with your department chair on how best to arrange for these accommodations on a case-by-case basis.
- Let them know that it is important that they take their temperature and that NYFA provides disposable thermometers at the following locations:
Barham Building: 1st floor and 5th floor reception desks.
Riverside Building: P1 reception desk.
Burbank Studios: 1st floor NYFA area and post-production lab.
- Remind students that if:
- They have fever or severe cough - they need to stay home and seek medical assistance until they are cleared to come back to school;
- They don't have a fever and/or severe cough, they may remain on campus, but are strongly encouraged to wear a mask. They should keep a safe distance from others, cover their mouth with their elbow or tissue when coughing or sneezing, wash their hands frequently, and avoid public transportation and gatherings.
If a student comes to you with general concerns or questions about coronavirus, please refer them to NYFA’s Dean of Students, Dr. Susan Ashe (susan.ashe@nyfa.edu).
