Announcement about thermometers on campus.
Updated information from LA County Public Health
At the NYFA Los Angeles campus, we are currently adhering to the most recent NYFA Health Alert published on March 6 (https://hub.nyfa.edu/health-alert). NYFA is continuously monitoring the recommendations from the CDC and LA County Public Health and will send updates to the NYFA Health Alert as additional information becomes available and relevant.
Announcement about Thermometers on Campus NYFA has disposable, single-use thermometers in each of its three instructional buildings. If you are home and feeling ill, stay home and follow self-isolation practices. If you are on campus and feeling ill, you may go to one of the below locations to take your temperature:
Barham Building: 1st floor and 5th floor reception desks.
Riverside Building: P1 reception desk.
Burbank Studios: 1st floor NYFA area and post-production lab.
If you have a fever (100.4F/38C or higher) or severe cough, go home and seek medical assistance until you are cleared to come back to school.
If you do not have a fever and/or severe cough, you may remain on campus, but are strongly encouraged to wear a mask. Keep a safe distance from others, cover your mouth with your elbow or tissue when coughing or sneezing, wash your hands frequently, and avoid public transportation and gatherings.
Updated information from LA County Public Health As of March 9, 2020, the County of Los Angeles continues to be under a local health emergency in response to the coronavirus and the first recently confirmed case of community transmission within Los Angeles County. In a press release from LA County Public Health, the County states, “There are no known public exposure locations related to these cases at this time.” LA County Public Health has not recommended a school closure at this time. Per recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and LA County Public Health, NYFA is taking this opportunity to create a plan in the event social distancing measures or school closure is recommended. The most recent NYFA Health Alert from March 6, 2020 is still in effect (https://hub.nyfa.edu/health-alert). NYFA is continuously monitoring the recommendations from the CDC and LA County Public Health and will send updates to the NYFA Health Alert as additional information becomes available and relevant.
LA County Public Health continues to recommend that the public do the following to protect themselves and others from respiratory illnesses:
Stay home when you are sick.
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Limit close contact, like kissing and sharing cups or utensils, with people who are sick.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. If you do not have a tissue, use your sleeve (not your hands).
Facemasks are most effective when used appropriately by health care workers and those directly caring for people who are sick and by people who are sick (source control).
Get a flu immunization if you have not done so this season.
