IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT FALL IN-PERSON CLASSES: SEPTEMBER 4

Updated: SEPTEMBER 4, 2020 at 2:15pm PT

Dear NYFA LA Community,

Until last night, all guidance from the State of California and LA County indicated that higher education would have the possibility of in-person classes as early as October 5, 2020. However, last night, LA County Public Health held a telebriefing and announced that higher education institutions will not have permission to resume in-person classes until November 30, at the earliest.  Therefore, while we planned to see you in-person on October 5 for hybrid classes, we will not be permitted to offer any in-person classes until, at earliest, November 30, 2020. NYFA LA’s Fall 2020 semester will begin on September 14, 2020 through remote instruction.

We are disappointed by this news, but we understand LA County’s decision is in the service of public health. LA County does not want students congregating on-campus in any way that could perpetuate the spread of COVID-19. NYFA LA agrees with and will abide by this guidance. NYFA LA is in contact with LA County to get clarification on this new guidance and we will look for opportunities for hands-on classes in exterior locations. LA County is allowing film production; therefore continuing students who have productions planned can continue their greenlight process.

As we have done throughout this time of quarantine, we will continue to find ways to bring you together as a community, both on-line and in any other formats that are available and acceptable per LA County guidelines.

Though this is not the news we hoped for from LA County, we have been prepared to offer the semester through remote learning and instructors are well-equipped to offer a quality education in the remote format.

If you have any questions or want to discuss your Fall Semester enrollment, please email RemoteLearningLA@nyfa.edu.
