After secretly ditching work to attend an important family dinner, a theme park character actor must navigate a way to get back to work without his judgemental family finding out he is not on a path toward becoming an EGOT winner.
Think The Office meets Modern Family. Comedy mockumentary, so keep the performance funny but grounded. Improv experience is a major plus for all roles.
This is a proof of concept for a pilot in the works. It will be released on the internet and may have a film festival run.
DAVID HOFFMAN
22; caucasian; male. David was born to perform. He has fallen in love with character acting at a theme park, despite the stigma surrounding the career with his family. He’s a bit of a Jim Halpert (from “The Office”) type. Just a little quirkier. The approval of his family, most importantly his mother, is important to him. He struggles between being proud of his passion and feeling weary that he will be disowned by the Hoffman family. [PLUS if actor is diabetic]
SALLY HOFFMAN
Mid-to-late 40s; caucasian; female. Known for her extravagance. Wants to be a star. She pushes her kids to be her proudest accomplishments. She provides a lot for her family but her high expectations can be a setback as a mother. Think Moira from Schitt’s Creek, but a little less snobby and cold towards her family.
MADONNA HOFFMAN
18+ to play 17-18; caucasian; female. David's younger sister and a total drama queen. Takes after her mother in that she wants to steal the show. A bit of an "attention-whore" and addicted to drama and gossip. If any of the Hoffman kids are going to actually become an EGOT winner, it would be her.
PHILIP HOFFMAN
18+ TPY; 14-15; caucasian; male. The youngest Hoffman. Goofy-looking and ridden with ADHD. He comes to think Mikey B may be his real father.
DUSTIN HOFFMAN
Mid-to-late 40s; caucasian; male. Pathetic but lovable. If there is one thing for sure, Dustin is loyal and passionate about his family. He loves his wife more than anything and strives to be a good dad. He enjoys performing but isn’t nearly as critical as his wife.
MIKEY B
Mid-to-late 50s; caucasian; "oddly" resembles Michael Bay. Mikey B is a parody/satire character based on Michael Bay. Typical “alpha male.” Had some flings in the past with Sally, which has led to years of rivalry between him and Dustin. He is currently casting his next big film.
ALAN
Mid-30s; all ethnicities; male. David's boss. A pretty small dude with a collected and confident attitude. He manages his employees with grace and humility, but sometimes he can get carried away when it comes to caring.
Auditions will be self-tapes. Callbacks will be on Zoom.
