Project Description
My name is Lily Malm and I'm a Swedish international student pursuing a BFA degree in screenwriting. I am about to start a rewrite on a feature film screenplay about a U.S detention officer forced to choose between her patriotic duty and the unlikely bond she forms with an indigenous child separated from her family at the height of the border crisis. The protagonist is a Mexican American woman pressured to assimilate to the dominant white culture by which she is surrounded, a point of view that I do not have any personal experience with as a white woman of Scandinavian origin. I am therefore looking to partner with someone with a passion and an ambition for screenwriting who could bring a level of cultural and emotional authenticity to the rewrite in ways that I naturally cannot. My only ambition with this script is to hold the Trump administration and immigration officers accountable for their actions against refugees as it is a topic that is eternally close to my heart, but I also understand that research can only reach a certain point before a personal connection has to take over.
