Mission and Purpose

Mission and Purpose

Counseling at NYFA aims to support current students to collaboratively explore and understand personal issues in a neutral, compassionate setting. We support students through short-term counseling here on campus and by connecting them to long-term or specialized therapy and psychiatry within the community. Our aim is to promote healthy mental and emotional lives for our students by advocating early connection to care. Counseling provides support to the larger NYFA community through staff consultation and regular training related to identifying, supporting, and addressing the mental health needs of NYFA students with a particular focus on suicide prevention.
